Cardboard

Cardboard has a very long recyclable lifespan. It comes in many shapes, sizes, and colors and will be a large part of your recycling.

Examples: Shipping boxes, cereal boxes, pasta boxes, product packaging boxes, etc.

Break all cardboard down so that it is flat. Leave large cardboard outside of the bags.

Do NOT recycle: Any cardboard that has been contaminated by cooked food, raw meat, or has been exposed to moisture for long periods of time and could possibly grow mold or bacteria. Cardboard that got damp briefly but has dried out is acceptable.

Paper

Paper has a shorter recycling lifespan than cardboard but it makes up an extremely large portion of waste in landfills. All color, texture, and glossy paper are acceptable.

Shredded paper should be bagged separately.

Examples: Newspaper, junk mail, printer paper, magazines, etc.

Do NOT recycle wet paper or paper with food residue, mold or rot.

Glass

Jars and bottles only.
Remove lids, labels can be left on, containers should be rinsed free of residue and placed in a bin/bag separate from other materials. All colors and sizes are acceptable.

Glass must be separated from other items.

DO NOT recycle glass panes, mirrors or ceramics/porcelains.

Plastics

Plastic litters the landfill and aside from toxic waste it does the most damage. It comes in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Thankfully most of it is recyclable.

Examples: Bottles, containers of all sizes, bags, etc.

Consider if it is packaging or a product; typically packaging is recyclable and the products themselves are not. Plastic recyclables are so broad in form that it is easiest to consult the plastic itself. Look for the recycling icon with a number inside. We take 1,2, and 5. Leave caps and labels on.

Items must be rinsed free of food residue.

Metals

Examples: Human or pet food cans, soda cans, empty paint cans (must be rinsed well).

We also accept scrap metals, small appliances and electronics.

Empty contents completely, rinse free of any food or residue, leave labels on, and leave tops attached but folded down inside.
